Rod Piazza is equally adept at both the diatonic and chromatic harp. He can produce vibrating phrases, hit and hold incredibly high notes and equally low ones, buzz, moan and howl on his instrument or simply play beautiful melodies. Rod Piazza was born on December 18, 1947 in Riverside, California. He grew up during the blues boom of the early and mid-60s. As a child, RP listened to R&B records that his brother bought. At the age of 16, he organized a blues band. He was lucky enough to play in jams with his idol and future mentor George "Harmonica" Smith, who moved to Los Angeles from Chicago, where the blues scene was then at its peak.
